James joined Davies and Partners in 2003 as a specialist solicitor in the firm's Clinical Negligence Department. In 2010 he left the firm for a short period of time before re-joining, this time as a Consultant Solicitor, in April 2014.
James has almost 15 years experience of claimant clinical negligence work and has been a member of the Law Society's Clinical Negligence Panel since 2008. He is a former APIL Senior Litigator. He is highly rated by peers and opponents alike. He enjoys the enviable reputation of being both a thorough and compassionate solicitor and also a tenacious and highly successful litigator. James has recovered more than £4 million pounds in compensation for his clients in the last year alone.
James has spent his entire legal career as a claimant clinical negligence specialist. Whilst he is happy to accept instructions in all aspects of clinical negligence work, in recent years his practice has had a particular emphasis on the more serious and complex injuries.
James is based in Barnstaple and can see clients across North Devon and from the Bristol office.
James' early legal career was notable for his involvement in two highly emotive and high profile actions: the Bristol Royal Infirmary Inquiry and the Royal Liverpool Children's Hospital Litigation (the Alder Hey organ retention litigation). James was one of five solicitors who formed the steering committee in the Alder Hey litigation – driving this complex multi-party action to a settlement in excess of £5 million.
During his career James has worked side by side with nationally recognised leaders in the field of clincial negligence gaining their acceptance as a peer with the quality of his work. He continues to undertake work in all areas of clinical negligence litigation but maintains a particular interest in the more serious and complex injuries.
